Quick Take: Axios is a new media and tech company that gets your smarter, faster with the news that matters. We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead our team with our Director of Backend Engineering!

Why it Matters:  Our Backend Developers are a critical part of our mission to deliver the cleanest, smartest, most efficient and trustworthy content and technology to our users and customers. We are looking for a Backend Engineering Manager to help scale our organization and coach, develop and manage our talented team of Backend Engineers. 

Go Deeper: In this role, you will make an impact to Axios through the following responsibilities:

  • Coaching and growing the 3-8 engineers in our backend chapter

  • Play a lead role in our performance management practices

  • Provide regular, candid feedback in weekly 1-1s, as well as participate in monthly check-ins, bi-annual performance evaluations, and suggest general advancement opportunities 

  • Ensure the Psychological Safety of their staff 

  • Drive the tech organization forward by researching potential technology, creating proper documentation, and establishing best practices and patterns for existing technology in collaboration with the Director of Backend Engineering 

  • Serve as a resource to squads for making technical decisions 

The Details: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:

  • Experience leading and managing a team of engineers in a fast-growth environment

  • Deep, current technical capacity with software development, architecture, data design and implementation, and enterprise-grade software delivery

  • Proven track record of creating pragmatic, maintainable systems using industry-recognized best practices

  • Experience with backend technologies such as Python, Golang, Elixir, or Ruby
